Checklist for Evaluating Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Projects: From Raw Materials and Site Selection to Operating Costs

With the development of electric vehicles, energy storage systems and electronic products, lithium-ion battery recycling projects are attracting increasing attention. For recycling companies and investors, establishing a stable lithium-ion battery recycling production line requires not only selecting suitable equipment but also conducting a systematic assessment during the early stages of the project.

Before launching a project, companies must first identify the types of raw materials involved. Different raw materials present varying challenges in terms of safe handling, crushing and sorting, dust control and material recovery. The clearer the understanding of the raw materials, the easier it is to determine the equipment configuration and process route.

Secondly, the target production capacity and recovered products must be confirmed. Does the client wish to establish a small-scale production line initially, or proceed directly to an industrial-scale operation? Are the target products black powder, copper, aluminium, or a mixed recovered material? These factors will all influence equipment configuration and the scale of investment.

Thirdly, the conditions of the production facility are also crucial. The floor area, ceiling height, material inlet and outlet directions, electrical supply, dust extraction layout and safety distances will all affect the production line layout. If these factors are not properly assessed at an early stage, additional modifications may be required later on.

Fourthly, operating costs must be considered in advance. Labour costs, electricity costs, maintenance costs, the cost of wear-and-tear parts, and environmental treatment costs will all affect the project’s long-term profitability.
